What to see in Ninh Binh

·Tam Coc-Bich Dong:Dubbled”Ha Long Bay on Land” this site features streams that wind through paddies and limestone hills.There are caves and historic monuments dating from the 13th century Tran Dynasty.Most of  these sites lie in Ninh Hai commune,Hoa Lu district.

·Ancient capital of Hoa Lu:This was the first capital of the first centralized feudal state of Viet Nam.Hoa Lu served as the capial for 42 years(968-1010) and was attached to three successive courts:the Dinh,Early Le anh Ly Dynasties.This important era saw the unification of the country;the defeat of Song and Champa invaders;and the construction of Thang Long Citadel (in present-day Hanoi).In 1010 AD,King Ly Thai To decided to move the capial from Hoa Lu to Thang Long(Hanoi)

·Van Long:This is the biggest submerged land reserve in the Red river Delta.Located in the northeast of Gia Vien district in Ninh Binh province,Van Long became an official tourist area in 1998.In 1999 it was recognized as a natural reserve.

·Phat Diem Cathedral:This Catholic compound covers 22 hectares in Phat Diem town in the Kim Son district,120km south of Hanoi.Built between 1875 and 1899,Phat  Diem Cathedral blends typical Western church architecture with traditional Vietnamese temple architecture.Fashioned of stone,the main building is very imposing.


Getting there: Ninh Binh City lies around 90km from Hanoi,on National Highway 1.The driver takes about two hours.
