Tourism Authority of Thailand Phuket office has confirmed last year’s Phuket Great Time campaign will return, but in a bigger version with more participating hotels and deals.

The campaign will run May to September, offering more choices and deals to attract visitors to the island during the low season.

“Phuket will concentrate on the domestic and Asian markets,” said TAT Phuket office director, Bangornrat Shinaprayoon. “These two markets will help compensate for a decrease in the European market,” she added.

Details of campaign packages are still being finalised, but most of the offers will be built around a three-day/ two-night stay with prices averaging Bt5,000 to Bt6,000 per person/ package.

Last year, there were six packages under the Phuket Great Time, ranging from Bt2,450 to Bt13,000 depending on accommodation and transportation choices. Promotional price packages came with a condition that two persons travelled together .

“The main purpose of Phuket Great Time is to boost up tourist arrivals during the low season, especially in the domestic market. Thai travelers perceive Phuket to be overpriced.”

Last year, the campaign attracted 50,000 tourists during the six-month period (May to October). This year it should improve arrivals by 5%.

“We are now talking with more airlines like THAI and Air Asia to offer more destinations on the package, but details have yet to be finalised,” said TAT Phuket office deputy director, Wannaprapa Suksomboon. “We hope to get 40 hotels, up from 20 last year as well as adding car rentals,” she said.
