Flower festival in Dalat

The 4th Flower Festival, a biannually event will take place in Dalat in the central highlands from 30 December this year to 3 January 2012.

The event is expected to attract around 300,000 visitors, mostly local tourists for the opening ceremony on the night of 31 December.

Highlights of the festival are a street parade themed “flowers and light” in Hoa Binh area and a show “flower space” at the Dalat Palace Golf Club near Xuan Huong Lake covering an area of 2 hectares. It will feature replicas of buildings made of flowers representing five continents as well as a tulip exhibition.

In addition, a series of cultural and art activities including flower decorations along the road near the Palace Hotel, tours of flower villages, a fair, a flower market and flower balloon performances.

Dalat is situated at about 1,500 metres above sea level and was a popular retreat for French colonials to escape the heat and humidity of the lowlands and coast. The climate is decidedly cooler year round even during the summer season.

The town is about 210 km from Ho Chi Minh City, but it takes seven hours to cover the trip by road. The flight takes 30 minutes.
