Ecotourism event in Cambodia

The third World Ecotourism Conference 2011 will be held in Sihanoukville, Cambodia, 3 and 5 October.

The event was originally scheduled for Phnom Penh, but Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism decided to shift the venue to Sihanoukville about 230km south of the capital city.

The decision was influenced by the recent designation of the so-called Cambodia Bay (Sihanoukville, Koh Kong, Kep and Kampot) as one of the “Most Beautiful Bays” by World Club.

The first and second editions of the World Ecotourism Conferences were held in Laos and Malaysia.

The registration for delegate is now open online, while the registration for buyers and sellers for the International Ecotourism, Nature and Adventure Mart held in conjunction with the WEC will open soon.

The event is jointly sponsored by the Ministry and DiscoveryMice with support from the United Nations World Tourism Organisation The opening event will be presided over by Prime Minister Hun Sen and UNWTO secretary-general, Taleb Riafi.

Programme highlights have still to be finalised, but keynote address ‘Charting the Future of Ecotourism in Asia’ will be presented by UNWTO Sustainable Development director, Luigi Cabrini. Panal discussions will include subject such as Sustainable Tourism & Roadmaps, Market Development & Marketing Value Chain; Local Community Challenges & Success Stories, Public-Private Sector & People Partnerships Parallel to the event, ministers, heads of public and private sector, NGOs and international agencies will convene for the 1st Asia Pacific Ministerial Summit on Ecotourism (drafting of Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Declaration).

The organiser offers conference package which include registration and hotel accommodation. Delegates can select accommodation from three-star to five- star hotels and stays ranging from three to four nights.

Inclusive delegate packages are priced from US$380 for a three-day conference and US$650 for the conference, tour and five-star accommodation.

Delegates need to cover their own air or land transport to Phnom Phenh and arrive at the capital’s airport in time to connect with a bus transfer to Sihanoukville, departing 1400, 2 October.
