Local airlines have confirmed there are still tickets for passengers to fly to tourist attractions on the nation’s National Day on September 2.

Truong Thanh Vu of Air Mekong told the Daily on the phone on Tuesday that customers would be able to book seats on the private carrier’s flights to places of interest, including Phu Quoc, Con Dao, Dalat and Quy Nhon.

Fares from VND1.1 million were still available on Air Mekong’s website as of last night for its flights from HCMC to Phu Quoc on Friday, September 2 and the return services on Sunday, September 4. These are considered the busiest days for airlines to transport passengers to tourist sites and back home.

Passengers can find fares from just over VND1 million for Air Mekong’s service from HCMC to the Central Highlands city of Dalat on the Friday and from VND1.4 million the flight back on the Sunday. Vu said there remained various ticket options for the services on the other days.

Tickets for the holiday flights are still available on Jetstar Pacific’s website and ticketing offices as ascertained by the low-cost carrier on Tuesday afternoon. The airline said its observation showed that demand for air travel during the upcoming holiday was not as strong as last year.

But Jetstar Pacific expected all seats on its flights would be reserved in the run up to National Day. This airline and Air Mekong said they would not increase frequencies for the holiday as their aircraft were limited.

Vietnam Airlines is optimistic about the market during the holiday and has prepared resources to cash in on surging demand. The national flag air carrier will increase significant loading capacity of its flights to nine domestic routes covering Hanoi, HCMC, Haiphong, Danang, Nha Trang and Phu Quoc from August 30 to September 5.

In the period, Vietnam Airlines will offer 174,000 seats, up 30% on the same period last year, and the number of seats on its flights on September 2 will grow higher at 32%. More seats will be for the flights to tourist destinations, including 3,656 more seats for the Hanoi-Nha Trang route, 2,208 more for the Hanoi-Danang and 2,140 more for the HCMC-Nha Trang.
