Hotel occupancies at resorts near Bangkok skyrocketed after the government announced an emergency five-day holiday at the end of last week.

Pattaya, Hua Hin and Prachuab Khiri Khan all reported occupancies exceeding 80%, after Bangkok residents moved out to take a break from flood stress.

Tourism Authority of Thailand Prachuab Khiri Khan office reported occupancy rates in Hua Hin reached 95% representing 8,800 rooms booked on a 10,000 room inventory.

Pattaya in Chonburi province reported over 85% occupancies at hotels. According to TAT Pattaya office, hotels offered flood victims special rates to move to the resort for a break over the five-day holiday. The strategy packed out the resort for five days, causing horrendous traffic jams.

There was also a rush on long-term rents for houses, both at the beach resort and surrounding areas for those who had lost their homes.
